Health and Safety Policy for Ireland Removals

Ireland Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across our services, including domestic and commercial moves, packing, loading, transportation and unloading of goods.

We recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to the quality of our services and to the wellbeing of everyone involved. We aim to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health through proactive planning, safe systems of work and continuous improvement.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for health and safety within Ireland Removals rests with the company management, who ensure that adequate resources, information and training are provided to implement this policy.

Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for promoting safe working practices on every job, monitoring compliance with procedures and reporting any concerns or incidents promptly.

All employees have a duty to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. This includes following instructions and training, using equipment correctly, wearing any required personal protective equipment and reporting hazards, near misses or accidents without delay.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

We carry out risk assessments covering typical removal activities such as lifting and carrying furniture, working on or near vehicles, operating equipment, accessing properties, and working in varied environments including stairways, corridors and outdoor spaces.

From these assessments we develop safe systems of work that are communicated to all staff. These include procedures for planning each move, assessing access routes, handling heavy or awkward items, securing loads in vehicles and managing parking and traffic risks at collection and delivery locations.

Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in our operations, the introduction of new equipment or following any incident that indicates a potential weakness in existing controls.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment

Manual handling is a core element of our work, and we recognise the particular risks associated with lifting and moving heavy or bulky items. To reduce the risk of injury, we:

Provide manual handling training for relevant staff, including correct lifting techniques, team lifts and the use of handling aids.

Use appropriate equipment such as trolleys, dollies, sliders, straps and lifting aids where reasonably practicable.

Plan the handling of large or awkward items in advance, including assessing the safest route and required manpower.

Require employees to avoid unsafe lifts and to request assistance or additional equipment where needed.

All equipment used in our removal operations is maintained in good working order. Employees are expected to inspect equipment visually before use and to report any defects or damage immediately so that the item can be removed from service until repaired or replaced.

Vehicle and Road Safety

Our vehicles are essential to our services, and their safe operation is a priority. We ensure that all drivers are appropriately licensed, competent and familiar with the specific vehicles they operate.

Regular vehicle checks and maintenance are carried out in line with manufacturer recommendations and applicable standards. Drivers are required to complete daily walk-around checks and to report any defects at once.

Loads are secured carefully to prevent movement during transit. Routes are planned to allow adequate time and to avoid unnecessary risks. Drivers must follow road traffic laws at all times, adopt defensive driving techniques and avoid driving when fatigued.

Protection of Customers and the Public

When working at customer premises or in public areas, we take steps to minimise risks to others. This includes keeping access routes as clear as reasonably possible, using warning signs or barriers where appropriate and managing vehicle movements carefully.

Our teams are instructed to act with consideration for residents, visitors, neighbours and other road users. We aim to keep noise, disruption and obstruction to a minimum while still carrying out our work safely and efficiently.

Training, Information and Supervision

Ireland Removals provides health and safety induction training to all new employees covering our policies, procedures and expectations. Job-specific training is provided for tasks such as manual handling, vehicle operation and the use of any specialised equipment.

Where necessary, refresher training is delivered to maintain competence and awareness, and to reflect any updates to legislation or company procedures. Supervisors monitor work on site to ensure that training is applied in practice and that safe methods are followed.

Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, injuries, near misses and hazardous situations must be reported as soon as possible to a supervisor or manager. This allows us to investigate the causes, implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.

We maintain incident records and review them periodically to identify patterns or areas for improvement. Learnings from incidents are shared with relevant staff and used to update risk assessments and working procedures.

Employees are instructed on emergency arrangements relevant to our activities, including what to do in the event of fire, serious injury, vehicle collision or other emergencies while at customer premises or on the road.

Health, Welfare and Wellbeing

We recognise the importance of general health and wellbeing in maintaining a safe workforce. We aim to manage working hours sensibly, allow adequate rest breaks and encourage employees to report any health issues that may affect their ability to work safely.

Where appropriate, we will consider adjustments to duties or workloads to support employees with health concerns, in line with our operational needs and legal responsibilities.

Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement

Ireland Removals is committed to continually improving its health and safety performance. We monitor compliance with this policy through site observations, vehicle and equipment checks, incident analysis and feedback from staff and customers.

This policy is reviewed regularly and updated when needed to reflect changes in legislation, industry best practice or the nature of our operations. Any significant changes are communicated to all employees.

By working together and following this policy, we aim to ensure that our removal and relocation services are delivered safely, responsibly and with respect for the wellbeing of everyone involved.
